"Balancing while sleeping" is a series of self-portraits with generalized character and style, so that there is the possibility of the viewer's identification with the depicted person and condition of swinging into the natural environment. I tried to present myself in a state of hypnosis, namely, absolute tranquility, relaxation and especially as a way of escape from reality. More detailed, I wanted to present my own version of the existing reality, creating a subjective surreal world where I would have the opportunity to completely let myself and feel free, to attempt a union with the natural landscape that surround me. In this way, both the body and the mental human being are trying to balance between the physical, the metaphysical and the surreal reality of hypnosis, an imaginary world, and a dream.
Transition is a photographic imaging of adolescents in the natural environment. The portraits show teenagers in situations that expose them as thoughtful and vulnerable beings. In particular, every person is placed in a landscape and appears surrounded by natural elements. The aim is initially to integrate man into the natural environment and then to familiarize him with the elements of nature.
The innocent teenage faces are in harmony with the peaceful environment and show a mood of moving away from reality, without revealing what has just happened before. A frame of reading is created, in which history seems to be unable to reveal to the viewer the beginning and the end, but only now, the moment of the capture. Their looks betray a character that is not revealed to the viewer as they are absorbed in their own thoughts.
In this way, the viewer is asked to identify with the depicted persons, to travel back in time and to experience the transition from childhood to adulthood. Additionally, a past reflection of our memories is achieved through the faces of adolescents, creating a familiar, yet strange, intimacy.
This project aims to develop a photographic section that is associated with capturing the landscape of the greater area of Athens. More specifically, the photographic shots focus on highlighting the relationship between man and nature. This relationship is created more intensively through the direction of the hands, which shows more the feelings of man in the natural environment, with the strength of the sense of touch. In this way, the establishment of an alternating power between man and nature is achieved, referring the viewer in some kind of ritual, in the form of theatricality. Finally, this project is based on the blend of urban and natural environment, creating an eminent contrast, while showing the need for human-nature interaction.
